What is Fes?

In recent years, Fez has become a popular tourist destination. Money has flowed from riads in the medina sold to foreigners to new landscaped parks and fountains in the new city. According to the luxurious advertisements of Western magazines, Fez is the new Marrakech.

For the visitor, the medina of Fez el-Bali (old Fez) constitutes, not without reason, the main asset of the city. Festival of the senses, this maze of alleys and covered bazaars is crammed with stalls and small tables with mouth-watering aromas, craftsmen’s workshops, mosques and passers-by. Tradition and modernity intertwine: a man on a donkey or mule – still the main means of transport – can thus chat on his mobile phone, while the horizon line is now punctuated by as many satellite antennas than minarets.

There are some taboos that we hear sometimes from different countries and stories that we don't know if they are true or not, but I will recommend that if you have the opportunity to travel alone to this country, it is something you should do! There is nothing to worry about, especially if you are a woman, the only thing that can be uncomfortable is that a vendor is begging you to buy their products and nothing else, the city is full of tourists all year round and security especially takes care of tourism.
