What is Fes?
In recent years, Fez has become a popular tourist destination. Money has flowed from riads in the medina sold to foreigners to new landscaped parks and fountains in the new city. According to the luxurious advertisements of Western magazines, Fez is the new Marrakech.
For the visitor, the medina of Fez el-Bali (old Fez) constitutes, not without reason, the main asset of the city. Festival of the senses, this maze of alleys and covered bazaars is crammed with stalls and small tables with mouth-watering aromas, craftsmen’s workshops, mosques and passers-by. Tradition and modernity intertwine: a man on a donkey or mule – still the main means of transport – can thus chat on his mobile phone, while the horizon line is now punctuated by as many satellite antennas than minarets.
We will pick you up at 8 AM from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, then travel over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m/7414 ft) while experience of the mountains and of the Berber villages on the way. Stop for lunch and a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou (this famous kasbah was used as a backdrop for more than 20 films.) The tour then leaves Ouarzazate and continues towards through the Valley of Roses and towards the Dades valley, passing through the Skoura oasis with its authentic 17 century kasbah, the valley of a thousand Kasbahs and the Dades Gorge.dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in the Dades Gorges.
After breakfast at the hotel we will depart for the Todra Gorge: a massive fault rising up to 300 m in a narrow valley, with lush palm oases and picturesque Berber Villages. After lunch in the gorge, we will drive to the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, passing through Erfoud and Rissani, following the ancient caravan paths that eventually lead to Timbuktu. Then you will ride your camels (about one hour and a half) in order to arrive at the desert camp, staying in Nomadic .
